Claude Monet said, “Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.” He spent his artistic life trying to understand color under the shifting circumstances of nature. Henry Hensche, a student of Charles Hawthorne, attempted to codify Monet’s sense of color into a teachable methodology which he taught for over fifty years in Provincetown, Mass. at his Cape School of Art in the early-mid 20th century.
The focus of this workshop will be to heighten each student’s color perception through a modified Hensche method. The first morning will include demonstrations by the instructor. In the afternoon, students will paint several small, simple, still-life setups under varied, colored-light situations. The second day students will have the entire day to work on a still-life set-up and practice the skills learned on day one.
